Position Description Electrification of transport is a key pillar of ESB's Net Zero 2040 Strategy - reducing the carbon impact from transport and improving air-quality while growing our business. ESB owns and operates the publicly available Electric Vehicle (EV) charging network on the island of Ireland and are currently upgrading and expanding the RoI network through a €20m jointly funded ESB / Irish Government investment and the NI infrastructure via a Levelling-Up-Fund grant from the UK Government. ESB is also expanding our EV charging network in Britain - with rapid-charging sites deployed to date in London, Birmingham and Coventry and a project pipeline for future city-wide projects and an anticipated portfolio of privately owned sites across the UK. ESB ecars' strategy, consistent with our role as a pioneer in Electromobility and our ambition to capture value from the global trend in electrification of transport, is to continue to expand our EV charging infrastructure network. ESB ecars 2030 strategy in line with ESB's net zero 2040 strategy calls for increasing our EV charger numbers across ROI and GB from approximately the 600 chargers currently, to 3000 by 2030. Additional engineering resource is required to manage this deployment and provide expert electrical input to the design and build of the network. The nature of the deployment means that a variety of locations will be progressed for installation, including roads, highways, Council and 3rd party land including petrol forecourts. The successful candidate will be required to provide expert electrical input to the designs, produce site-specific physical drawings of the development with associated design risk assessments, manage the planning process and the network application processes. The candidate may also be required on occasion to manage ESB's subcontractors throughout the pre-construction and construction phases. Engagement in project management meetings, both internal and external facing and the ability to manage stakeholders effectively will be a requirement. Key Responsibilities Act as the lead electrical engineering subject matter expert in the business, supporting the Project Delivery team with expert input to medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) projects through from design to commissioning in both the UK and Ireland. Ensuring adherence to the requirements of electrical installation regulations in all design and works throughout the project, e.g. BS 7671 (UK) and/or IS 10101 (Ireland). Production of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) layout designs for EV charging sites using AutoCAD design software, based on ESB's standard designs and site surveys and associated Design Risk Assessment's. Lead the submission of in-house or externally contracted planning applications through to consent. Identifying and progressing grid connection application requirements for the works, including liaison with the relevant network companies, Distribution Network Operators (DNOs)orIndependent Connection Provider (ICPs). Managing and coordinating ESB's contractors' scheduling of work. Management of Health & Safety throughout the pre-construction process, including running design co-ordination workshops, preparing Pre-Construction Information, and ensuring the obligations of the Principal Designer (PD) or Project Supervisor Design Process(PSDP) role are discharged appropriately by ESB. Experience and Qualifications Essential Engineering\Technical Degree or equivalent experience. Minimum 3 years' experience in engineering design and project management. Ability to produce high quality CAD design drawings using AutoCAD design software. Working knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of Client and PSDP / PD under Construction Regulations (UK and/or ROI) Full drivers' licence and access to a vehicle Desirable Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of IS 10101 and/or BS 7671 Requirements (or equivalent) for electrical installations. Knowledge & experience of EV charging infrastructure development. Experience as MV or LV design engineer or civil/structural/construction engineer. Strong stakeholder management abilities managing both client and subcontractor relationships. Experience in delivery of contestable grid connection works. Working knowledge and understanding of other engineering disciplines and their interaction with electrical requirements.
