Principal Android Engineer
We are looking for a Principal Android Engineer to lead development of a high-quality, customer-facing mobile app. You will guide technical strategy, drive architectural decisions, and mentor engineers while collaborating with Product, iOS, and QA partners in an agile environment. This position requires on-site presence at least once per week.
12 Month Initial Contract, Rolling, strong daily rate available.
Required Experience
10+ years of Android development, including 3+ years in a technical leadership role
Expert in Kotlin, Android SDK, Jetpack Compose, Android Studio
Strong understanding of Android internals, performance optimization, and scalable architectures
Proven experience architecting, launching, and scaling apps in the Google Play Store
Strong knowledge of design patterns, clean architecture, and secure networking (REST/GraphQL)
Advanced testing practices (unit, integration, end-to-end) and CI/CD automation
Skilled in Git, agile methodologies, troubleshooting, and technical decision-making
Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex concepts
Ability to align technical direction with business priorities
Key Responsibilities
Define and lead Android technical strategy and architectural standards
Champion performance, scalability, maintainability, and code quality
Introduce modern Android tooling and engineering best practices
Mentor engineers and influence engineering practices across teams
Deliver robust, secure, and intuitive mobile features at pace
Ensure operational excellence, observability, and reliability in production
Reduce technical debt and continually improve developer workflows
Resolve complex production issues and implement preventative improvements
Availability to start at short notice preferred
