This is an exciting opportunity to join an established team, in supporting adults with neurodiverse needs, including intellectual disabilities and Autism. The Senior Occupational Therapist is a key appointment in the delivery of a comprehensive and effective services for adults with complex & neurodiverse needs (an intellectual disability and /or autism, and associated needs.) He/she will contribute to providing a quality service and support staff to enable adults develop and live their lives to a full potential. The successful applicant will work as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team to provide Occupational Therapy Services to meet the needs of the adults we support with complex needs. Note: A panel will be created from this campaign from which current and future permanent, specified purpose, whole-time and part-time posts for Western Care Association may be filled. He/she will contribute to providing a quality service and support staff to enable adults develop and live their lives to a full potential. Main Duties & Responsibilities The Senior Occupational Therapist will work as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team to provide Occupational Therapy Services to meet the needs of the adults we support with complex needs. The Occupational Therapist will: Be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and review of treatment / intervention programmes for the people we support according to Western Care Association standards. Manage own caseload in accordance with the needs of the post. Collaborate with the people we support, carers and other staff in intervention planning. Work as part of the interdisciplinary teams, to address the holistic needs of the people we support. Plan discharge or transition of the people we support between services as appropriate. Document all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports and discharge summaries in accordance with Western Care Associations Policies, Procedures and professional standards. Communicate verbally and / or in writing results of assessments, treatment and intervention programmes and recommendations to the team and relevant others. Education and Training The Senior Occupational Therapist will: Participate in mandatory training programmes Participate in continuing professional development including in-service training, attending and presenting at conferences / courses relevant to practice Engage in support / supervision with the Clinical Lead and participate in performance review Participate in the practice education of student therapists. Actively participate in teaching / training / supervision of other Occupational Therapy and non-Occupational Therapy staff / students and attend practice educator courses as appropriate Candidate Requirements Essential Requirements Possess a recognised Occupational Therapist qualification and be registered or be eligible for registration as an Occupational Therapist by CORU Currently working as a Senior Occupational Therapist or eligible for this grade Excellent communication, initiative and time management skills Full drivers licence and access to car Desirable Criteria Minimum of two years proven experience working in a disability setting Experience and/or training in clinical supervision Experience of supervising Occupational Therapy students Experience of multi / interdisciplinary team working Other Requirements Full driver's license is essential. Candidates must hold a full clean driving license. Have access to appropriate transport to fulfil the requirements of the role. Act in a confidential manner when dealing with personal information relating to persons we support, families and staff. Attend and actively participate in staff meetings. Actively participate in supervisory support as per Organisation Procedure. General Promote and develop good community networks which support inclusion and integration to the people we support. Promote a positive image and name of the Association in the wider community. Be accountable and responsible for input into service planning and delivery, together with job performance as per role within the Association. Promote dignity at work and show respect to the people we support, colleagues and stakeholders in the course of duty. Attend staff training events as required and implement learning in the workplace. Perform any other appropriate duties as requested by the person in charge. Conditions The Job Description forms an integral part of the Contract of Employment, together with the Association's Policies and Procedures. Flexibility in working hours may be a feature of this position, to meet the needs of the department. To engage with and use the technology systems and packages provided by the Association to support day to day work and future planning needs. You will receive support and supervision from your line manager regarding your day to day work through the Supervisory Support Process in place in the Association. Location: The Senior Occupational Therapist will be based in Head Office, Western Care Association, John Moore Road, Castlebar with a county wide brief. Working Hours: 35 hours per week including flexibility Probation: A probationary period of six months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. The probation period may be extended at the Employer's discretion. Tenure: This position is Permanent full-time and pensionable.
