The Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce is a private, membership-driven organization representing more than 500 businesses, civic organizations, educational institutions, and professionals. Founded in 1998, the Chamber serves as the principal voice of the region’s business community.
Our mission is to preserve and promote the vitality and economic growth of Waterford and the surrounding area by providing effective advocacy, leadership, and opportunities for connection that strengthen local businesses and the communities they serve.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Executive Director (ED) is the Chamber’s chief administrative officer and reports directly to the Board of Directors. The ED is responsible for the overall management of the Chamber’s operations, strategic initiatives, and public presence.
This position oversees staff, finances, membership development, marketing, events, advocacy, and economic development efforts. The Executive Director serves as the primary ambassador and spokesperson for the Chamber, advancing its mission while fostering strong relationships with members, stakeholders, and community partners.
The successful candidate will be a creative, confident, and results-driven leader who is community-minded, self-motivated, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Board Governance
Lead the Chamber in alignment with its mission, vision, and strategic direction as defined by the Board of Directors
Maintain open, transparent, and effective communication with the Board
Provide timely, accurate, and relevant information to support informed Board decision-making
Membership & Programs
Grow and retain Chamber membership
Deliver member value through networking, educational programming, and signature events
Develop programs and initiatives that address current and emerging business needs
Strategic Planning & Policy Development
Guide the allocation of Chamber resources to achieve strategic goals
Collaborate with staff to develop and execute the annual calendar of events, programs, and initiatives
Advocacy & Communications
Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Chamber
Represent the Chamber with members, elected officials, government agencies, and community organizations
Manage branding and marketing efforts
Promote the business community and maintain positive media and government relations
Financial Performance & Organizational Viability
Ensure the fiscal integrity of the Chamber
Develop and present the annual budget and monthly financial reports to the Board
Manage income and expenditures in accordance with the approved budget
Lead fundraising and revenue development efforts, including dues, sponsorships, grants, and events
Oversee staff performance, set expectations, and conduct evaluations
Submit salary and benefits recommendations to the Board
Work closely with the Membership Development Director to achieve recruitment and retention goals
PREFERRED PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Strong understanding of local business issues and economic development
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, marketing, or a closely related field
Minimum of five (5) years of senior administrative or executive leadership experience
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities
Experience managing staff and volunteers
Knowledge of budget development and financial oversight
SALARY & BENEFITS
Salary is commensurate with qualifications, including education, experience, knowledge, and skills.
