The Middle/Upper School Counselor reports to the Dean of Students. In alignment with the Waterford mission to provide a world-class liberal arts education, the Counselor helps students develop resilience and adopt healthy coping strategies for success in school and life. The Counselor supports and guides students in areas of wellness, emotional challenge, social competencies and overall well-being. The Counselor also supports students and their families in understanding and working with learning differences and helps teachers develop effective classroom strategies to support students. Responsibilities and Duties Guide and implement a balanced school counseling program that focuses on and promotes student resilience, well-being, and success. Collaborate with parents to support student mental health concerns Recommend outside learning assessments as needed and interpret results for families and teachers Develop Student Profiles (Waterford’s IEP/504 plan equivalent) for students with significant learning differences providing strategies for classroom success Collaborate with the School Nurse and the Dean of Students to develop effective wellness programming Respond to acute mental and emotional health needs of students, and recommend outside follow-up as needed Meet weekly with Dean of Students to discuss strategies to support student needs Meet with the Middle and/or Upper School “Dean Teams” weekly to respond to issues/concerns Be a resource for teachers working with students of concern Keep accurate, detailed and confidential files on all student needs including notes of all conversations with students, individual and group discussions Work with students individually and in small groups on executive functioning, organization, time management and other effective learning strategies that support academic success Coordinate with teachers, tutors, mentors and deans to support students’ long-term and acute academic needs. Qualifications and Skills Strong personal commitment to the Waterford School mission, vision, and core values Master’s or doctorate degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy Experience as a teacher or counselor at the middle school and/or high school level Comfort in providing risk assessment, including for suicidality Working knowledge of various counseling models, practices and resources Integrity, professionalism and confidentiality Sound judgement and emotional intelligence Ability to respond effectively to the needs of a student population ranging in age from 11-18 years Engaging interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills including student assembly presentations and large parent gatherings Ability to collect and analyze data The Waterford campus is set on 45 acres at the foot of Utah’s Wasatch Mountains, one of North America’s premier outdoor and recreational areas. Waterford School seeks a full‑time Upper School Spanish Teacher. Waterford’s graduation requirements ask students to take three years of a contemporary world language in order to graduate. Middle school students all study Latin; students begin their study of contemporary world languages (French, Chinese, or Spanish) in Class IX. Our Spanish program is a thriving program that enjoys high student interest and enrollment. The team works closely together and is interested in comprehensible input and proficiency‑based instruction. We are excited to find the right educator to join this strong team. The ideal candidate would hold an advanced degree in Spanish Language & Literature, Spanish teaching, or a related field, would have 2 or more years of relevant teaching experience, and be able to develop a healthy rapport with Middle and Upper School students, and embrace Waterford School’s mission, vision, and values in curriculum, teaching, and membership in the community. A full‑time course load entails full teaching responsibility for up to five courses.     Math tutoring involves one‑on‑one and/or group tutoring with students in Waterford Lower School, grades K‑V. Tutoring sessions occur two to three times per week, lasting 45‑60 minutes, during school, before school, and after school hours Monday through Friday. Responsibilities Ability to teach math strategies to support students’ required math units and materials at students’ instructional level. Enjoy math and be able to communicate mathematical ideas and concepts in ways that are developmentally appropriate for 8‑11‑year‑olds. Develop and follow daily lesson plans that focus on individual student needs, including building foundational skills outlined by student evaluation. Communicate with students’ parents and current teachers. Write two reports each term: a brief mid‑term report to establish goals and a comprehensive end‑of‑term report for parents, homeroom teachers, and the lower school head. Maintain Google Drive folders for all students and become proficient in working with Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Calendar. Maintain a Waterford email account and check it weekly for notes from the lower school head and more often for notes from the reading director.
