  • Civil Design Engineer

    Join to apply for the Civil Design Engineer role at TOBIN Due to continued growth and expansion within our Building & Infrastructure Division, TOBIN is excited to offer a permanent opportunity for a Civil Design Engineer to join our team in our Galway Office. The position requires a minimum Level 8 Honours Degree qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering (or an equivalent qualification) and typically applies to candidates with between 3 and 6 years of experience depending on the knowledge and skills gained throughout their career to date. Duties & Responsibilities Where directed by the Project Manager, liaise with clients to deliver the required designs. Review documents and designs prepared by graduate engineers. Prepare and review preliminary designs and reports using a variety of computer packages and subsequently prepare detailed design drawings and specifications. Procure site investigation, building and civil engineering contracts. Assist project managers in preparing tender documents and assessments. Administer construction contracts to ensure that design requirements, project schedules and budgets are achieved. Follow instruction from line managers and, where appropriate, relevant project managers and senior team members. The Skills Required of a Design Engineer Excellent written and verbal (English) communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient in AutoCAD 2D with an aptitude for developing skills in AutoCAD 3D and Building Information Modelling (e.g., AutoDesk REVIT). Capability to use other software packages such as MicroDrainage, Microsoft Access, and GIS tools such as ArcGIS and MapInfo. Working knowledge of construction contracts such as the PWMF Forms of Contract. Working knowledge of software packages such as Microsoft Project, MicroDrainage, and other similar tools needed to fulfil day‑to‑day tasks. Seniority level: Mid‑Senior level. This is a key role for a Chartered Engineer with strong Irish experience, proven project delivery, and a passion for shaping transport infrastructure. Location: Galway or Sligo (hybrid working available) Duties and Responsibilities Lead the delivery of road design projects, including road realignment and active travel schemes. Act as RSA Team Leader, overseeing Road Safety Audits in compliance with Irish standards and legislation. Manage project teams, ensuring high-quality outputs, timely delivery, and adherence to budgets. Prepare and review technical reports, preliminary and detailed designs, specifications, and tender documentation. RSA Team Leader accreditation and deep understanding of Irish road safety standards. Advanced proficiency in Civil 3D and AutoCAD; BIM experience is a plus.
