Wicklow. About the Role The Lead Electrical Engineer will be embedded within the client’s project team and will oversee electrical engineering activities, contractor management, and quality assurance across the overhaul programme. Responsibilities Ensure all works comply with statutory safety, health, and environmental regulations. Conduct regular safety, environmental, and quality audits. Support the development and implementation of Inspection & Test Plans for electrical works. Maintain quality processes according to the project Quality Plan. Manage the main EPC electrical contract and additional electrical work scopes as assigned. Act as the day‑to‑day technical and supervisory contact for contractors. Review Inspection & Test Plan documentation and contractor deliverables. Use contractor management processes to oversee progress, hold meetings (kick‑off, progress, close‑out), and track performance. Liaise with the client’s engineering specialists to ensure works comply with project protocols and technical requirements. Attend factory acceptance tests (FATs), workshops, and site inspections as required. Support testing, commissioning, and inspection activities for electrical systems. Develop technical specifications for mechanical plant and equipment where needed. Ensure engineering drawings and procedures for mechanical plant modifications are updated. Produce close‑out reports for assigned mechanical scopes. Provide schedule progress reporting and attend project meetings. Support contract cost control activities. Coordinate daily work requirements with the principal contractor. Collaborate closely with on‑site operations and maintenance teams. Qualifications Strong experience in planning and delivering major power station overhauls, including logistics, procurement, specification development, and contractor management. Minimum 5 years post‑qualification experience in the power generation industry. Experience with electrical plant such as generators, transformers, and HV/MV/LV switchgear. Excellent communication, technical reporting, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Solid knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental standards. Required Skills Level 8 qualification (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Preferred Skills Contractors must comply with all site‑specific Health & Safety rules and instructions.     Senior Civil Engineer – High Voltage (HV) Infrastructure Location: Dublin (Hybrid) Duration: 12-month contract Start Date: January 2026 Working Hours: 08:30–16:45, Monday to Friday Overview Spencer Ogden is partnering with a leading organisation in the energy sector to recruit a Senior Civil Engineer to join their Planning Team within Engineering and Major Projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the planning and development of high-voltage transmission and distribution assets nationwide. You will provide specialist civil engineering support from project inception through planning stage design and submission for major electricity infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities Deliver planning-stage civil designs for HV substation projects, including planning drawings and coordination of specialist inputs (hydrology, ecology, geotechnical, etc.). Provide technical civil engineering expertise throughout the development phase to support planning consent and capital approval. Act as Lead Engineer for designated projects, coordinating multi-disciplinary design teams, managing programmes and fees, and interfacing with clients and stakeholders. Specify, manage, and be accountable for inputs from subcontractors and sub-consultants. Coordinate with local authorities, landowners, customers, and consultants to ensure project milestones are achieved. Promote and actively participate in a strong safety-first culture across all activities. Support process improvements by implementing lessons learned from completed projects. Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers. Essential Experience & Skills Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in civil engineering or planning-stage design. Strong technical capability in civil engineering and/or planning design at development stage. Proven track record delivering major project outputs and managing key project elements. Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and technical report-writing skills. Full clean driver’s licence (ROI), access to a car, and flexibility to travel nationwide 1–2 times per month. Experience delivering civil engineering or utility infrastructure projects. Experience in planning submission processes within the jurisdiction. Previous experience as Lead Engineer and/or in a PSDP role. Qualifications Level 8 Engineering Degree (or equivalent). Chartered or working towards chartership with a recognised professional body. Working Arrangements Hybrid working: remote work combined with approx. 2 in-office days per week at a Dublin-based office. Travel and accommodation expenses for business travel (outside normal place of work) reimbursed when pre-approved. Contractors must have their own phone, laptop/PC, and internet access. Safety Requirements Contractors must comply with all relevant Health & Safety regulations and instructions.
