Vacancy ID : 040124 Closing Date : 21-May-2026 12:00 Vacancy: 040124 - Postdoctoral Researcher - Men's Health Contract: Specified Purpose - 12 months Salary: IUA Postdoctoral Researcher (PD1) salary scale: €46,805 - €53,391 (Based on rates effective 1 February 2026) Men in Ireland experience a disproportionate burden of ill-health and premature mortality compared with females. Male suicide remains a significant and persistent health inequity. While there has been a welcome growth in suicide awareness and gatekeeper training initiatives, these are primarily focused on crisis recognition and response. There remains a clear gap in upstream mental health promotion approaches that strengthen protective factors and address the broader determinants of men's wellbeing before distress escalates. The post-doctoral role will comprise two main areas of work: (i) The development of a flexible and modular positive psychology programme for men in priority settings using Wellbeing for Men as a demonstrator project. An existing programme - Wellbeing for Men, adapted from the HSE's Minding Your Wellbeing Programme - provides a strong foundation for this work. Grounded in positive psychology, it focuses on self-care, emotions, thoughts, relationships, and resilience. However, delivery to date has been largely limited to male HSE staff, and the current full-day, face-to-face format presents challenges for accessibility, scalability, and reach. In consultation with key stakeholders, adapt the existing Wellbeing for Men programme content and delivery model to improve feasibility, acceptability and reach men in priority settings; assess feasibility in the pilot delivery of the programme including recruitment, attendance, engagement and participant satisfaction; and generate evidence-informed recommendations for national scale-up under the Healthy Ireland Men Action Plan (ii) The development of a Farmer Mental Health & Wellbeing Plan Working under the guidance of an expert stakeholder group, map existing farmer health and wellbeing interventions; synthesise evidence and develop clear, evidence-informed recommendations to underpin a national Farmer Health & Wellbeing Plan.
