The Design Engineer will seamlessly bridge the gap between 3D modeling and electrical schematics using SolidWorks, CAD, WSCAD, and related tools, blending technical precision with multi‑platform fluency. Technical Responsibilities Schematic design – develop comprehensive electrical wiring diagrams, control panel layouts and PIDs using WSCAD, AutoCAD, and other relevant tools. 3D modeling – utilize SolidWorks to design 3D enclosures, cable routing, and component placements to ensure spatial accuracy. Drawing design – create clean, compliant, production‑ready drawings in a timely manner. System integration – design control systems for electrical automation, including PLC I/O configurations, motor control circuits, and safety systems. Technical documentation – generate accurate material bills, cable schedules, and terminal diagrams for production and installation teams. Project collaboration – work closely with stakeholders to ensure electrical designs integrate perfectly with mechanical hardware and automation code. Compliance & safety – ensure all designs adhere to relevant Irish and/or international standards and quality protocols. People Management/Leadership Responsibilities Role model for the team – lead by example. Inspire, manage, and influence team members to achieve desired outcomes. Ensure compliance with all standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Educate, train, develop, coach, and correct team members as appropriate. Mentor colleagues, supporting their growth and improvement. Address employee issues promptly, liaising with HR when necessary. Provide regular feedback using management tools such as assessments, reviews, and IDPs. Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across the team. Travel Office‑based role in Sligo with no regular domestic or international travel required. Essential Skills & Competencies Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field. 3+ years of proven experience in electrical automation or heavy engineering environments. Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, WSCAD, AutoCAD, or EPLAN. In‑depth understanding of electrical control panel design, LV switchgear, and automation components (PLCs, VFDs, sensors, etc.). Expert knowledge of electrical symbols, circuit protection, and wiring regulations. Methodical, structured approach to documentation and systems development. Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to devise solutions. Adaptable, innovative, and flexible when facing challenges and changes. Effective communication skills, promoting mutual understanding and engagement. Proactive learning and attendance at meetings, training sessions, and other required engagements. Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and organize efficient workflows. Track record of motivating and inspiring teams through direct engagement, reviews, and mentoring. Commitment to meeting requests from senior management as needed. Desirable Competencies Master’s degree or Professional Engineer (PE) status. Capability to devise new solutions for unidentified or emerging issues. Particulars of the Position 6‑month probation period; successful completion grants indefinite contract.   • Overview of Role As a Senior Project Engineer you will be responsible for interpreting client specifications, transforming this data into intuitive operational interfaces. The role will be responsible for leading the design and development of complex control PLC programs and HMI systems from scratch to site installation and testing. This role isn’t just “writing code” but being visibly responsible for translating complex data into clear actionable and intuitive visual representations. The scope of the role will not only include PLC and HMI control systems but also ensure seamless communication between PLCs, HMIs and client/site requirements. Technical Responsibilities System Architecture – Design and develop complex PLC programs from scratch using structured text, ladder logic, and function blocks. HMI Screens – Create high‑performance HMI screens that adhere to relevant standards, ensuring operators can identify anomalies effectively. Data Translation – Develop algorithms to process raw telemetry into real‑time visual trends, KPIs, and predictive status indicators. Systems Completion – Configure, program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and other systems in a timely manner. System Integration – Oversee seamless communication between PLCs, HMIs and other systems using agreed protocols and tools. Test and Validate – Ensure system performance following installation meets design specifications and client/site requirements through on‑site diagnostics and fault‑finding for electrical, control, or other issues. Technical Support – Provide technical support and training to clients, perform preventative maintenance, and execute system upgrades as required. Documentation – Document system configurations, test results, and service reports, ensuring compliance with safety standards, electrical codes, and company procedures. Project Collaboration – Work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure full integration and project completion in a timely manner. Compliance Safety – Ensure all designs adhere to relevant Irish and/or International regulatory standards and quality protocols. People Management / Leadership Lead by example and inspire the team. Effectively manage a team, influencing desired outcomes through leadership skills. Ensure compliance with all standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
