Job Overview
This is a newly created role within Sleater Solutions, reflecting the organization’s growth. The Design Engineer will seamlessly bridge the gap between 3D modeling and electrical schematics using SolidWorks, CAD, WSCAD, and related tools, blending technical precision with multi‑platform fluency.
Technical Responsibilities
Schematic design – develop comprehensive electrical wiring diagrams, control panel layouts and PIDs using WSCAD, AutoCAD, and other relevant tools.
3D modeling – utilize SolidWorks to design 3D enclosures, cable routing, and component placements to ensure spatial accuracy.
Drawing design – create clean, compliant, production‑ready drawings in a timely manner.
System integration – design control systems for electrical automation, including PLC I/O configurations, motor control circuits, and safety systems.
Technical documentation – generate accurate material bills, cable schedules, and terminal diagrams for production and installation teams.
Project collaboration – work closely with stakeholders to ensure electrical designs integrate perfectly with mechanical hardware and automation code.
Compliance & safety – ensure all designs adhere to relevant Irish and/or international standards and quality protocols.
People Management/Leadership Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with all standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Educate, train, develop, coach, and correct team members as appropriate.

Travel
Office‑based role in Sligo with no regular domestic or international travel required.
Essential Skills & Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
3+ years of proven experience in electrical automation or heavy engineering environments.
Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, WSCAD, AutoCAD, or EPLAN.
In‑depth understanding of electrical control panel design, LV switchgear, and automation components (PLCs, VFDs, sensors, etc.).
Expert knowledge of electrical symbols, circuit protection, and wiring regulations.
Methodical, structured approach to documentation and systems development.
Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to devise solutions.
Adaptable, innovative, and flexible when facing challenges and changes.
Effective communication skills, promoting mutual understanding and engagement.
Proactive learning and attendance at meetings, training sessions, and other required engagements.
Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and organize efficient workflows.
Track record of motivating and inspiring teams through direct engagement, reviews, and mentoring.
Commitment to meeting requests from senior management as needed.
Desirable Competencies
Master’s degree or Professional Engineer (PE) status.
Capability to devise new solutions for unidentified or emerging issues.
Particulars of the Position
6‑month probation period; successful completion grants indefinite contract.
Reports directly to the Program Director.
Role is newly created and available immediately.
