Summary of Post The research assistant will work with an MD student (Dr. Arveen Jeyaseelan) to deliver an exercise and nutritional program in hip fracture patients after surgery in University Hospital Waterford (UHW)/ Kilcreene Regional Orthopaedic Hospital (KROH) under the supervision and direction of Dr. Niamh O'Regan, Consultant Orthogeriatrician. This program has been designed with input from patients and experts in hip fracture care and is being delivered as part of a postgraduate research qualification with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). The study will involve two groups of patients, usual care group (no exercise program) and intervention group (exercise and nutritional program). The post holder will be required to deliver the exercise program and document participation to the intervention group in detail while working within the existing framework of hip fracture aftercare in UHW/KROH. The post holder will work in conjunction with the MD Student who will perform other duties (not within the duties of research assistant) which include recruitment into study and all other required assessments. This post will fulfill the work commitment of a 0.8FTE research assistant for the duration of the study as outlined above. We are establishing a number of new programmes in the Faculty and the post holder will provide support across these as follows Contributing to the development and introduction of new teaching programmes, teaching modalities and modes of assessment Liaising with colleagues across RCSI international campuses and beyond (i.e. other HEIs and the Health Service) in the facilitation, development and advancement of teaching activities Contributing to quality assurance/quality improvement and accreditation and evaluations of new/existing modules Performing such other related duties as may be required Representing the best interests of the Faculty and wider RCSI at all times Undergoing programmes of training and development as required Supervising undergraduate students and postgraduate students at Masters and PhD level Applying for and administering funding applications Person Specification Essential: Ph.D. degree or equivalent in the areas of Health Systems/Public Health is essential Strong teaching interest and skill set, as evidenced by experience of, a proven track record in, and enthusiasm for postgraduate teaching and assessment in areas relevant to Health Systems and Public Health. Internationally competitive research record, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in journals of high quality/impact and grant support Enthusiasm for your specialist teaching area and the ability to engage your students to successfully transfer this passion and learning Capacity for original thought and the ability to produce original and up to date teaching methods An ability to continuously adapt and innovate teaching methods to ensure students' full understanding A high level of proficiency with online learning methodologies Demonstrate an interest in seeking ways and opportunities to support students' whole development.
