  • Senior Development Technologist

    My job ?? Shillelagh - Office-Based role ?? Permanent Are you a process-driven NPD expert who thrives in fast-paced, retailer-facing environments? Do you enjoy bringing exciting, culinary-led products to life from handover through to launch? Working as part of the R&D Team to ensure the successful launch of new products in line with customer critical paths. You will be the link between Product Development and full production. You will be responsible for projects, working through the hand over stage to product launch. You will be playing an active role in ensuring that all products are fully validated and set up to maintain product standards against customer codes of practice and Pilgrim's Europe manufacturing standards. You'll be part of a passionate, driven and supportive team, playing a key role in delivering successful product launches while ensuring operational excellence on site. Key Responsibilities Managing the R&D team to deliver new products from the NPD stage through to successful product launch, ensuring that product consistency is achieved throughout. Adhere to the PFM Concept to Launch Gate Process for all development work, driving products through & supporting team members where required. Co-ordination of product trials and pre-production runs, for preparation for a successful handover to production Take ownership of the provision of all documentation relevant to trials such as nutritional analysis, shelf-life verification & cooking validations. Ensuring all ingredients, packaging and factory trial paperwork is available and correct. Ensures all packaging and raw materials are ordered and available for all factory trials. Alongside the R&D Manager, co-ordinate customer visits for factory trials and PPRs. Supporting business change in the use of best in class processes and systems (A3 problem solving etc) Responsible for the NPI Technologist and their training and development needs. Skills & Knowledge Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Level 2 Food Safety in Manufacturing Knowledge and understanding of current legislation, relevant to food manufacturing and product labelling. Good computer skills.     My job Pilgrim's Europe is looking for an NPI Technologist to join our team in Carrickmacross. We are looking for someone to join the team that has a strong culinary background, deep understanding of food at a high level, and the ability to translate creativity into innovative food solutions. The ideal candidate will bring expertise, enthusiasm, and a love for food that inspires excellence. Pairing those skills with a flair for process development, this role will combine the two skillsets to ensure we implement NPD & EPD into our manufacturing site, whilst supporting the drive to grow our foodie culture at site and within the business. Responsibilities: A key player in developing new products from concept to launch, following the Pilgrim's Europe stage-gate process. Collaborate closely with NPD to ensure new products are aligned with customer expectations. Lead & support factory trials to ensure accurate data collection, reporting and document generation. Responsible for ensuring key milestones are met via the Recipe Professor stage-gate process, and in line with the customers' Critical Path. Manage development recipes through Recipe Professor and other necessary systems. Coordinate and manage samples for validation, including: Shelf-life and sensory (organoleptic) testing Customer panels Nutritional sample submission/ Cooking instruction verifications. Transit trials Maintain all trial materials to ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. Ensure compliance with customer policies and business standards. Liaise with suppliers, NPD and procurement to source new raw materials required for factory trials. Key customer account lead: attending external meetings when required, lead site visits and develop close, long-standing relationships with our customers. You will be required to support site based culinary presentations within the capability of your culinary background. Internal and External food led presentations are to be supported when required.     My job Specification Technologist Location: Windmill Lane/Carrickmacross/Grantham/Craigavon/Dungannon Reports to: Product Specifications Lead To provide skilled technical support by writing, approving and maintaining accurate finished product specifications within the required timeframes, ensuring information contained is consistent with the source data (e.g. raw material data, factory recipes/specs, etc) and compliant with customer requirements, relevant legislation and group policy. To ensure the timely creation and approval of accurate, right first time product pack copies and artwork in accordance with customer requirements, relevant legislation and group policy. Responsibilities: Approve and maintain finished product specifications for all finished products supplied. This will include: Completing specifications in accordance with customer protocols ensuring data provided is accurate, valid, and compliant with customer requirements, relevant legislation and group polic Calculating and generating ingredient declarations in required customer forma Estimating meat content by both theoretical methods (QUID) and using laboratory analyses. Ensure that all data and/or claims that are linked with product specifications can be supported and are validated against customer requirements, legislation, group policy or third-party protocols (e.g. RSPO logo approval, Vegan Society etc.). Receive, evaluate and action as appropriate requests to amend/update specifications ensuring effective communication with all relevant stakeholders. Legal pack copy generation of technical information required for product packaging (Primary and Secondary) ensuring compliance with customer requirements and relevant legislation. To upload approved cutter profiles onto customer portals. Artwork Approval (covering primary and secondary packaging) Working with all relevant stakeholders (e.g. design houses, customers, internal and external commercial teams, printers etc.) to ensure packaging artwork designs are compliant with legal / customer technical requirements. To ensure that Recipe Professor is updated with analytical nutrition data that matches artwork. To ensure all relevant supporting documentation has been completed to the required standard and is linked to the appropriate specification. This may include, but is not limited to cooking or reheat validations, nutrition results, QAS/QCCP documents, salt exceptions and certificates. To keep up to date with customer and legal requirements and ensure all customer portals are maintained. To consider and respond to customer queries regarding specifications as and when they arise Present product specifications to customers as required during visits/audits and implement corrective actions where required. Provide guidance and support to other departments as required to support understanding and awareness of specific customer requirements. Work closely with other functions, particularly product development and raw materials supply chain teams, to ensure collaboration on timescales. Keep up to date with process changes in factories where they could impact specifications Essential Criteria: Food related qualification or experience in a similar role Computer literate - familiar with Excel & Word, comfortable using computer systems. Good communication skills (written and verbal) Ability to organise and prioritise workload. Excellent attention to detail Able to work to strict deadlines.
