The Opportunity As Head of Sales / Business Development, you will sit on the leadership team and take full ownership of the companys sales growth agenda. This is a highly visible, influential role with genuine autonomy, where you will define and execute the sales strategy, lead and develop a growing team, and drive expansion across a high-potential customer base. Key Responsibilities Strategic Sales Leadership Define and deliver a comprehensive sales strategy aligned to the companys four-year growth plan. Take ownership of the sales growth trajectory, ensuring focus on strategic accounts and high-value opportunities. Analyse market trends, customer needs, and competitor activity to identify growth opportunities, particularly for blended solutions. Partner closely with the CEO on budgets, forecasting, and long-term commercial strategy. Team Leadership & Development Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing sales team, directly managing a Sales Manager and Customer Relations Manager. Act as a player-coach, providing hands-on guidance while building scalable sales capability. Drive a performance-led culture through clear objectives, regular reviews, and continuous feedback. Develop a resourcing and skills plan to support the future growth and professionalism of the sales function. Customer & Portfolio Management Personally manage a portfolio of key strategic accounts, strengthening long-term relationships and driving sustainable revenue growth. Support and challenge the Sales Manager to deliver growth across their own customer portfolio. Work closely with the Customer Relations Manager, who focuses on reactivating dormant accounts, managing the order process, and servicing smaller customers. Ensure consistently high levels of customer satisfaction across all segments. Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration Play an active role on the leadership team, contributing to company-wide strategy and decision-making. Collaborate with operations, finance, and other departments to ensure seamless execution of sales initiatives. Business Development Lead business development efforts to expand the market for high-margin, in-house blended solutions. Manage senior-level negotiations and secure major new contracts that materially impact growth. Represent the business at industry events and trade shows, strengthening brand presence and generating new opportunities. Candidate Profile Minimum 8 years experience in a senior sales leadership role, ideally within food ingredients, B2B manufacturing, or a closely related sector. Proven track record of delivering significant revenue growth and leading teams through ambitious expansion phases. A natural player-coach with the credibility to lead from the front and the empathy to develop others. Commercially astute, strategic, and execution-focused. Highly skilled in influence, persuasion, and cross-functional communication. Strong negotiator with deep expertise in strategic relationship building. Experience managing both transactional and relationship-led sales models. Degree in Food Science or a related discipline is highly desirable. Reading and interpreting electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and technical manuals to support effective fault-finding. Leading and supporting preventative maintenance strategies to reduce breakdowns and extend equipment life. Completing root cause analysis on recurring faults and implementing long-term corrective solutions. Supporting engineering projects, machine improvements, and safety upgrades. Recording maintenance activity accurately in the CMMS and assisting with spare parts management. Working closely with production teams to plan maintenance and minimise downtime. Ensuring all work meets health & safety, food safety, and regulatory standards. What were looking for 2+ years experience in a maintenance engineering role within food manufacturing or FMCG. Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills with hands-on experience. Confidence reading electrical schematics and pneumatic diagrams. Experience with preventative maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives. A methodical, analytical approach with a focus on long-term engineering solutions. Knowledge of OEE, HACCP, and safe systems of work. Highly organised, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment. The successful applicant will have a strong technical manufacturing background and minimum 3 years of experience in a medium/high volume mechanical/ manufacturing environment.
