This strategic role involves commercial leadership, shaping financial strategies for growth and efficiency, and providing key insights to business units. You’ll manage budgeting and forecasting, oversee relationships with outsourced providers for accounting and tax, and manage audits. As a leader, you’ll ensure financial integrity and support strategic decision‑making to achieve Monzo’s mission of making money work for everyone. The role you are applying for is a Controlled Function (CF‑1) within the meaning of the Central Bank Reform Act, 2010. For this role, appointment will be conditional on Monzo being fully satisfied that the appointee meets the requirements as set out in the Fitness and Probity Standards 2018 issued by the Central Bank of Ireland. As a CF, the role holder will be subject to Conduct Standards under the Central Bank of Ireland Individual Accountability Framework and will be required to take reasonable steps to ensure that the relevant conduct standards are met. Key responsibilities Play a pivotal role in shaping financial strategies to fuel business growth and operational efficiency across EU operations. Stay abreast of market trends, regulatory shifts, and emerging technologies to continuously enhance and innovate financial processes. Serve as a trusted advisor to the CFO and the Executive team, offering strategic insights and guidance on financial matters. Collaborate with business units, providing financial insights and analytics to inform strategic and operational decisions. Support business initiatives through robust financial analysis and risk assessment, working alongside cross‑functional teams. Cultivate strong relationships with senior stakeholders to understand their objectives and tailor financial support accordingly. Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes for Monzo EU, ensuring alignment with Monzo’s Group strategic goals. Provide detailed financial analysis and modelling to support strategic initiatives and investment decisions. Identify and analyze key financial metrics to assess performance and recommend improvements. Oversee and manage the relationship with the outsourced provider responsible for financial accounting, statutory financial statements, reconciliations, and tax obligations. Develop and enforce SLAs and performance metrics to ensure high standards of service delivery and compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations. Review and approve all financial reports and statements prepared by the outsource provider to ensure accuracy and compliance. Manage both internal and external audit processes, ensuring thorough preparation and facilitating audits to meet all regulatory requirements. Liaise with auditors and ensure any findings are addressed promptly and effectively. Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards. Have significant experience in a senior finance leadership role, with strong commercial and financial acumen. Demonstrated expertise in banking, business partnering and driving financial strategy aligned to an organisation’s core mission and values. Proven track record of working in a business, managing cross‑functional teams, with multiple stakeholders, including Executive Committee and Board. Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience working in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment, proficient in presenting business and financial data in a simple and meaningful way. The role is based in our Dublin office, a hybrid model 2–3 days a week with occasional travel across the EU. Overview Monzo Bank Europe is an Irish-based subsidiary that drives Monzo’s expansion across the EU. We are seeking a seasoned Director to lead the development, implementation and oversight of risk frameworks in Europe. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, the incumbent will provide second‑line oversight of key operational risks, including ICT, Information Security, Payments and Third‑Party and Outsourcing risks, while maintaining EU enterprise risk governance standards. Responsibilities Operational Risk Management Develop, implement and maintain the EU Operational Risk Framework aligned with Monzo Group strategy. Formulate and oversee the operational risk appetite, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. Lead governance of operational risk policies, performing assurance testing to validate implementation. Lead scenario analysis and validate internal operational risk capital models to ensure capital adequacy. Implement advanced monitoring and Management Information processes, including KRIs and KCIs. Provide second‑line (2LoD) oversight across ICT, Information Security, Payments and Third‑Party/Outsourcing risks. Oversee end‑to‑end collection and analysis of operational loss and incident data, driving root‑cause analysis. Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Implement and evolve the Bank’s Risk Strategy and Framework to provide a comprehensive, end‑to‑end view of operations. Lead end‑to‑end Risk Governance cycles, including preparation, management and execution of the Executive Risk Committee (ERC). Design, coordinate and maintain the risk assessment process, ensuring robust risk and control identification. Design and lead a proactive Emerging Risk process, identifying and assessing long‑term external threats. Own and maintain the EU Risk Taxonomy, Risk Register and Impact Matrix. Proficiency in the full risk toolkit, including RCSA, KRIs/KCIs, Control Testing and Scenario Analysis, alongside core ERM processes. Detailed understanding of digital banking products and the unique risk/control challenges inherent in high‑growth fintech operations. Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence senior executives and board‑level stakeholders.
