This Mechanical Engineer role will provide technical knowledge and experience to Mercury’s Preconstruction Department at Mercury’s head office, Dublin. This team is responsible for performing pre-construction activities during the bidding phase across all business units. The Pre-construction team delivers project services across a project portfolio from initial project tender phase through to construction hand-over. Services provided specifically include Engineering, OSM, value engineering activities and Supply Chain Management. Key Responsibilities Of The Role Familiarization of Design/ specifications and drawings to fully understand the scope of the Project. Assist in generation and finalization of estimates, tender documents and resourcing of tender projects. Review the MEP design and conduct value engineering exercises to optimize mechanical design solutions. To support the engineering requirements through managing & liaising with Key Project Stakeholders (Client, Suppliers, Sub-contractors, Vendors). Ensure the design process recognizes current legislation, standards and codes of practice, where appropriate. Lead the complete design team including the design consultant, the client, architect and BIM team. Interface management between all parties to allow for an efficient design process. Responsible for management of RIBA design processes and procedures. Review equipment specifications and generate procurement packages. Assessment of Sub-contract and Supplier Tender returns for Technical compliance with design intent specifications. Review the construction methodology to identify program implications and building logistics. Interrogate tender documentation (drawings, specifications, tender addenda, and all other documentation) for commercial risks and scope gaps relating to deliverables. Identify project risks and mitigation plans to deal with these risks. Mentor and support less experienced engineers, promoting knowledge sharing and professional development. Evaluate and promote the use of new engineering practices and processes to enhance delivery time of projects. Essential Criteria For The Role 8+ years experience working with a recognized contractor as a mechanical engineer. Relevant engineering experience in a general contracting environment is required. Honors degree (NFQ Level 8 for Ireland) in Mechanical engineering. Proven ability to lead projects, manage technical and financial aspects, and deliver high quality mechanical systems. Design and implementation of mechanical systems such as Critical cooling, HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection. Knowledge of electrical systems supporting the mechanical plant. Strong understanding of industry standards, regulatory requirements, and value engineering principles. Monitor and report on fleet tool & plant spend, utilisation, savings, supplier performance, and compliance. Drive asset reallocation and recovery across projects to minimise external hire and excess spend. Oversee the disposal, resale, or write-off of surplus or end-of-life assets in line with policy and financial controls. Ensure strict adherence to the Authority Matrix, procurement policies, and audit requirements. Build strong relationships with project teams, site management, plant departments, finance, supply chain partners and senior stakeholders. Conduct site visits to meet with project teams.
