A large industrial organisation operating critical infrastructure assets is seeking an Automation Maintenance Engineer to lead and manage the Automation Maintenance function across a 24/7 operational environment.
This role is responsible for ensuring the availability, reliability, and safety of automation and control systems across multiple sites. You will lead a technical team, manage maintenance planning and spares, and ensure automation systems continue to operate efficiently, securely, and in compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.
Success in this role will be measured through effective issue resolution, strong root‑cause analysis, and the prevention of repeat failures, contributing to the overall performance of the organisation’s operational assets.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the automation maintenance team, ensuring maintenance targets are delivered safely, efficiently, and within environmental and operational limits.
Develop, manage, and execute preventative and corrective maintenance plans using a computerised maintenance management system.
Prepare and oversee method statements and risk assessments for automation and control activities.
Modify and support DCS, PLC, and control systems for operational improvements and new projects, ensuring all documentation is kept up to date.
Maintain and support emissions monitoring and instrumentation systems, ensuring high levels of reliability and compliance.
Manage strategic spare parts and procurement activities in line with operational and budget requirements.
Identify control system vulnerabilities and work closely with IT/OT security teams to maintain a secure OT environment, including compliance with relevant cybersecurity standards.
Plan and deliver control system upgrades to avoid obsolescence and minimise operational risk.
Support performance management processes and contribute to the development of the wider team.
What We’re Looking For
Third‑level qualification in Engineering or significant relevant industrial experience.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in Instrumentation, Control, or Automation roles.
Strong hands‑on experience with DCS, SCADA, PLCs, RTUs, and similar technologies.
Experience working in continuous‑process or critical infrastructure environments.
Background in power generation, renewable energy, or industrial processing desirable.
Experience managing vendors and third‑party support providers.
