The Head of Finance is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the Irish Management Institute (IMI), reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. The role holder is responsible for providing strategic financial direction, ensuring financial compliance, and delivering accurate, timely financial reporting to support organisational decision‑making and growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy and Planning
Develop and implement a financial strategy aligned with overall organisational goals and objectives and provide strategic financial guidance to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors
Lead the annual budgeting processes
Monitor financial performance against established KPIs and provide regular reporting
Identify opportunities for financial optimisation and efficiency improvements
Financial Management, Reporting and Operations
Oversee all financial operations, including accounting and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, financial regulations and best practices
Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts and quarterly Board reporting pack
Manage cash flow, debt, and financial risk to include implementing and maintaining robust internal controls and financial policies
Coordinate with other departments to ensure a finance business partnering approach is maintained throughout the organisation
Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders including auditors, regulators, and banking institutions
Review and approve key financial contracts and agreements
Co‑coordinate preparation of financial information for regulatory submissions and compliance purposes
Audit and Compliance (Financial)
Co‑coordinate and manage external audits
Address audit findings and implement corrective actions
Team Leadership and Development
Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a high‑performance culture
Provide guidance on financial matters and professional development for team members
Establish and maintain clear performance expectations and accountability measures

Work Location and Virtual Work
This role is based at IMI's headquarters in Dublin. IMI recognises the importance of flexible work arrangements and promotes a hybrid work model that combines in‑person and virtual work. Employees have the flexibility to work remotely for a part of their working hours, subject to operational requirements and the agreement of their line manager as outlined in the Work Life Balance Policy. Travel within Ireland and, occasionally, internationally may be required to attend meetings, conferences, and client engagements.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent professional qualification in finance
Minimum 8–10 years of experience in a senior finance leadership role
Strong understanding of financial management principles, budgeting, and strategic planning
Proven experience managing internal and external audits and compliance frameworks
Excellent analytical, communication, and people skills
Ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a finance team
Strong strategic thinking and problem‑solving abilities
Excellent organisational and project management skills
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional judgment
Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and financial software systems
Experience in a Higher Education Institution or professional services organisation
Experience with ERP systems and integrated financial software
Experience working with Boards or supporting governance committees
