From Synchronous Condensers to Battery Storage (BESS) and HV Substations, we are hiring skilled operatives to build the projects that will stabilize the grid and power the energy transition. The Electrical Technician Role: What You’ll Be Doing: You will specialise in the installation of cable management systems, the pulling of heavy industrial cables, and the precise termination of control and power cabling within High Voltage (HV) substations and power generation sites. This role requires a high standard of workmanship, particularly in glanding SWA (Steel Wire Armoured) cables and organizing complex wiring within marshalling kiosks and control panels. Core Responsibilities: Cable Containment & Support Systems * Install, cut, bend, and assemble cable containment systems including heavy-duty galvanized trays, ladders, trunking, and conduit (steel and PVC). * Plan and route complex cable paths, ensuring correct segregation between power, control, and instrumentation cables in line with UK standards. Cable Installation (Pulling & Laying) * Install HV and LV power cables, as well as multicore control cables. * Carry out safe cable pulling using rollers, drum handling equipment, and winches where required. * Dress, cleat, tie, and secure cables neatly on trays, ladders, and containment systems. Termination & Jointing * Prepare and terminate SWA cables using CW/BW glands (critical competency). * Crimp and fit lugs to power cables using manual or hydraulic crimping tools. * Strip, label (ferrule), and terminate fine control wiring inside panels, control boxes, and marshalling cabinets. * Connect cables to transformers, switchgear, motors, and instrumentation/sensing devices. In order to be successful in this role you must have / be: * Proven Track Record: 3+ years of verifiable industrial experience (Domestic/Residential house wiring experience is not sufficient for this role) * Glanding Skills: Must be proficient in stripping and glanding armoured cables (SWA) to a high standard. * Diagram Reading: Ability to read and interpret termination charts, schematic diagrams, and cable schedules. * Full, valid Driver’s License (Manual transmission capability preferred). It would be great if you had: * Experience with Cold Shrink or Heat Shrink terminations. * Experience in Earthing/Grounding bonding. * Knowledge of LOTO (Lock Out, Tag Out) safety procedures. The Role Electromechanical Fitters: What You’ll Be Doing You will be responsible for the mechanical installation, assembly, and fitting of High Voltage (HV) substation infrastructure and power generation equipment. This is a hybrid role requiring heavy mechanical fitting, steel fabrication, and precision electrical installation. As our Electromechanical Fitter you will be responsible for: * Structural Installation: Steelwork erection (gantries/supports), fabrication, and modification. * HV Apparatus: Mechanical assembly and alignment of Power Transformers, Circuit Breakers (AIS/GIS), Isolators, and Busbars. * Precision Engineering: Torquing, tensioning, and levelling to strict manufacturer tolerances. * Specialist Systems: Installation of rotating electrical machines, including Synchronous Condensers and Hydro Turbines (alignment of shafts, bearings, and couplings). * Containment & Earthing: Installation of heavy-duty cable management and copper earthing systems. In order to be successful in this role you must have: * Proven Track Record: 3+ years of verifiable experience in HV substations or Power Generation environments. * Technical Literacy: Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings (CAD/Schematics) and P&ID diagrams. * Licensing: Full, valid Driver’s License (Manual transmission capability preferred). It would be great if you had: * Rotating Machinery: Experience with the overhaul or installation of Hydro Turbines or Synchronous Condensers. * Welding: Current or previous coding (MIG/TIG/Arc) to ISO, AWS, or ASME standards. * Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with BS or IEC standards.
