About the Role
This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a well-established and highly reputable insurance company, providing broad exposure across the Legal landscape and strong potential for professional growth and development. You'll work closely with teams across the business, supporting commercial operations, regulatory compliance, and strategic decisionmaking.
We're seeking a commercial solicitor with strong experience gained in private practice and/or in-house experience. The ideal candidate will have expertise across a range of legal disciplines, with particular focus on vendor contract management, commercial agreements, and engagement with the Irish regulatory framework for the financial services and insurance sector.
You will bring a proven ability to brief senior stakeholders clearly and effectively on legal documentation, provide pragmatic legal advice across a wide variety of commercial matters, and demonstrate excellent attention to detail coupled with a commercially minded approach.
The successful candidate will be someone with a cando attitude, high levels of professionalism, integrity, and accountability. You will be a strategic thinker capable of balancing legal risk with business priorities while supporting the organisation's longterm objectives. Fitness & Probity and Conduct Standards
IPB Insurance is a financial institution regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. As such, this role is regulated and subject to the Fitness and Probity Standards as set out by the Central Bank. These standards require that individuals performing Controlled Functions (CFs) are competent, capable, honest, ethical, and act with integrity. In addition, the role is subject to the Conduct Standards introduced under the Central Bank (Individual Accountability Framework) Act 2023, which apply throughout the course of employment. Accordingly, this role will be subject to enhanced pre‑employment screening procedures, and there will be an ongoing requirement for the role holder to maintain both fit and proper status and adherence to the Conduct Standards throughout their employment.
What You'll Do
Commercial & Corporate
Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts (vendor agreements, service‑level agreements, NDAs) ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks such as DORA, outsourcing, GDPR and technology service level requirements.
Advise internal stakeholders on the negotiation and applicability of all key legal terms, and legal risks associated with contracting activity.
Manage and monitor existing vendor contracts to safeguard regulatory standards and service quality.
Develop and maintain comprehensive legal knowledge resources and contract precedent banks.
Design and enhance legal processes and policies to optimise legal contracting operations.
Provide expert legal due diligence advice on procurement processes for vendor risk management.
Lead in regulatory initiatives by shaping, anticipating and responding to regulatory developments affecting the Company.
Regulatory & Compliance
Provide accurate, timely, and commercially driven legal advice and assistance across all areas of the business including business assurance activities and testing.
Participate in the management of the legal risk register by identifying, assessing and closing out mitigation strategies.
Conduct comprehensive legal reviews of company documentation (policies, tenders, client enterprise risk management materials and marketing materials).
Lead horizon scanning activities for emerging legislation, with a particular focus on company law requirements and related EU regulatory developments impacting commercial insurance activities.
Assist and advise internal stakeholders on all Freedom of Information matters.
Deliver and support relevant legal training programmes across the business to assist with practical application of internal and external legal and governance requirements.
Support the Head of Legal and internal stakeholders on insurance product development and internal reviews of insurance policies.
Business Support
Respond to business requests for statutory and regulatory analysis to assess impact on business practices.
Liaise with risk, compliance and data protection teams, to provide practical guidance and promote awareness of compliance obligations across the wider business.
Actively engage in company projects and initiatives to contribute to a positive working environment.
Additional Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and procurement matters affecting the business. Identify opportunities to lead and promote best practice and enhance process reviews.
What We're Looking For
Qualified solicitor in Ireland with significant post‑qualification experience in an insurance company or financial services organisation.
Proven ability to effectively deal with a wide range of in‑house complex legal matters.
Strong knowledge of commercial, corporate, and contract law, with the ability to provide clear, pragmatic advice to the business.
Proven ability to draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements with accuracy and attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to influence, advise, and build trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
Strong judgement, professionalism, and the ability to balance legal risk with commercial priorities.
A proactive and solutions‑focused mindset, with the ability to work independently.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, practical guidance.
Comfortable working in a hybrid environment and managing competing priorities effectively.
Strong business acumen.
