Main Duties of the Job The post holder will practise as General Pathologist with particular interest in Gastrointestinal Pathology, Gynaecological Pathology, Dermatopathology and Cytopathology. The post holder will ensure that all functions and duties are undertaken in a manner that minimises delays for patients and disruption of services. As well as participating in the on‑call rota with consultant colleague specific duties apply to this post: The successful candidate will take part in the on‑call rota in PUH (1:2) The consultant will partake in the general histopathology diagnostic service based in the histology department of Portiuncula University Hospital and University Hospital Galway. Information about the organisation The Department of Histopathology at Portiuncula University Hospital and University Hospital Galway provide a wide range of services including covering a broad spectrum of General Histopathology and Cytology (Non‑gynaecological) Specimens. We actively participate in the Specialist GI Multidisciplinary Meeting. We have a close working relationship with the Department of Anatomical Pathology at our Regional level 4 Hospital – University Hospital Galway. We provide an adult autopsy Service to the Hospital and the East Galway Coroner with a full on call service. The appointment is whole‑time, permanent and pensionable. It is the tertiary referral centre and a national primary PCI hub. The appointment is whole‑time, permanent and pensionable. Information about the Organisation This post is a new Consultant position in Psychiatry of Learning Disability as part of the MHID (Mental Health and Intellectual Disability) service in the Kildare and West Wicklow area. In keeping with the HSE MHID Model of Service (2021) and National Service Plan the MHID team is being developed to provide a catchment area based service which is integrated with the local Mental Health Services. The current service consists of: outpatient clinics – new patient assessment and follow‑up clinics; home visits; care planning meetings with family, carers and local Disability service providers; consultation advice and liaison within local mental health services. The MHID service will also provide inpatient care to any MHID service user who is admitted to Lakeview Unit and will assist the service with case reviews where appropriate. Limerick and North Cork. The immediate catchment population for UHK is 157,000 and increases to 180,000 when referrals from North Cork and West Limerick are taken into account. There is one Consultant in the Department who provides Gastroenterology at UHK. There are general Gastroenterology and Hepatology clinics and a specialist clinic for inflammatory bowel disease. A full range of endoscopy services including bowel screening, therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy for the region, is provided, in the JAG accredited Unit at UHK. A regular endoscopy user’s group meeting takes place to discuss operational activity in the unit. There is close cooperation with Colorectal surgeons in UHK. These is also close cooperation with Gastroenterology colleagues in Cork University and Mercy Hospitals. UHK is affiliated with UCC has a long-standing relationship with our colleagues in UCC and there is an active research profile at the hospital. Secretarial/Administrative support is presently provided to the incumbent post holder.
