Next Distribution is a fast‑paced environment supporting over 5,000 users in 10 warehouses and several satellite sites around the UK and beyond. The Infrastructure & Cloud Services Warehouses team supports all server and storage hardware and software systems that allow the organisation’s user base to do their jobs. These systems include Linux and Windows Servers, Citrix, VMware, Brocade, Netscaler, IBM SAN, SQL Server and many more. We’re recruiting for an experienced Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer to provide technical expertise (either on your own or by involving your colleagues) through excellent written and verbal communication. Each day, you will have to make judgment calls regarding incidents and projects, prioritising to maximise your effectiveness. The Infrastructure & Cloud Services Warehouses team are responsible for the support, installation and maintenance of the server computing environment within Next Distribution warehouses and satellite sites. Working in a team of 11, you will be involved with the project delivery of the server, infrastructure & storage platforms and solutions that meet Next’s business requirements. You will use physical and virtualised server platforms, deploying services using scripted/automated builds and will also be involved in incident management and resolution, change management, problem management, request management, disaster recovery, upgrades to existing servers and systems, and maintaining environmental records of Next’s infrastructure. As part of this role, you will adhere to and promote team standards and will produce documentation to a high standard and must be proactive in knowledge transfer to other teams. You will also provide regular reporting to the senior management team whilst keeping the management team informed of major outages/issues and resolutions. The position is based around rotating shifts covering 08:00 am‑18:00 pm based on business requirements, and this role will also take part in a weekly callout rota.
