Job Description The purpose of this role is to perform various analytical tests on dairy, food, and infant formula samples using a variety of test methods and techniques in a busy INAB-accredited food and dairy chemistry contract laboratory. This will include validation of equipment and test methods to meet customer requirements as required. Assist with sample handling, preparation and data entry and approval using LIMS. Ensure requirements of quality system, ISO 17025 and INAB are adhered to in all activities. This position will be filled within a two week period. Main responsibilities will include: Undertaking day-to-day effective, accurate and efficient processing of workload in the food chemistry laboratory and performing tasks assigned by the Team Lead/Lab Manager. Adhering to regulations and laboratory policies regarding health and safety and to maintain a clean and hygienic working environment. Handling and testing samples for various dairy and nutritional tests according to documented procedures, including attention to sample preparation, temperature control, storage and prevention of cross-contamination. Maintaining accurate and systematic records of testing. To have a sound knowledge of relevant documents within the Quality system including SOPs, Quality Manual, and relevant methods applicable to the post. Have an active role in developing the capability and range of testing provided by the Laboratory to support profitable growth. Reporting any faults to the Team lead/Laboratory Manager. Participate in the training programme, undergoing further training as required and participating in schemes to ensure ongoing competence. Additional duties as required by the Senior Staff to fulfil the requirements and demands of the laboratory. Complying with all aspects of Eurofins H&S policy. Always uphold and maintain confidentiality. Qualifications Hard working self-motivated and ability to work on your own initiative. Flexible hours and working patterns, part time to full time hours available. Ability to work well under pressure. Interest in / ability to research methodology. Excellent attention to detail. Responsible for developing and validating new tests and procedures for company and clients. Responsible for the completion of specific technological projects and writing up the results of these projects accurately, confidentially and on time for the clients. Scientists are permitted to sign all technical documents once their training in this task is successfully completed. This includes laboratory reports, SOPs, protocols, investigation reports and any other documentation issued. Deputising for management as required. Responsible for updating any relevant documentation as required. Responsible for direct communication with clients in an appropriate manner. To liaise closely with the Section Manager to ensure that resources are available to guarantee that testing activities are completed to customer’s timelines. Responsible for the review of test methods for quotation purposes. Responsible for continually liaising with management, customers and other members of the organisation on any relevant problem areas or enhancements to the business. To identify any opportunities for improvement of quality and service and work with the team to implement continuous improvement. Qualifications Degree in a Scientific discipline 5+ years’ experience in a regulated GMP laboratory environment Analytical techniques (HPLC, LC-MS, GC, UV-Vis and Dissolution) Strong knowledge and experience with LC-MS is a requirement for this role Able to perform moderately complex and complex laboratory activities Good team player, organised, accurate, have strong documentation skills Passionate about quality and customer service.
