We are seeking an experienced Senior High Voltage (HV) Design Engineer to support a growing portfolio of substation projects across Europe. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex HV design packages, influence engineering strategy, and work alongside multidisciplinary teams delivering critical infrastructure. The position is primarily office‑based, with flexibility for hybrid or remote work where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities Serve as the technical authority for the design and delivery of HV electrical systems, ensuring design integrity, regulatory compliance, and performance from concept through to energisation.
Develop HV system layouts, design philosophies, and project‑specific electrical standards in accordance with IEC, IEEE, EN, and relevant utility requirements.
Lead the design and approval of HV protection and control systems, including protection schemes, interlocking logic, and control architectures for AIS and GIS substations.
Oversee the creation and review of schematic diagrams, protection and control wiring diagrams, and single‑line diagrams, ensuring technical clarity and constructability.
Lead all HV system studies, including fault level analysis, protection coordination, arc flash studies, voltage regulation, and load‑flow assessments.
Provide technical support for pre‑commissioning and commissioning activities, working closely with site teams through energisation and project handover.
Act as the primary technical interface with clients, utilities, and Owner’s Engineers throughout the project lifecycle.
Ensure compliance with all project-specific safety, technical, and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with civil and structural teams to ensure substations are designed to accommodate all electrical equipment, operational clearances, and layout requirements.
Manage and resolve design comments and technical queries from utilities and Owner’s Engineers, maintaining structured design logs.
Prepare and submit complete design packages for review and approval by stakeholders and utility partners.
Develop procurement specifications for primary plant and HV equipment, such as transformers, HV switchgear, circuit breakers, earthing systems, and neutral earthing resistors (NERs).
Participate in technical meetings with utilities and Owner’s Engineers, representing the engineering position of the organisation.
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior and graduate engineers, encouraging best practice and technical growth.
Key Requirements Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on Power Systems.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar HV design role within a utility or HV contractor environment.
Proficiency with design and analysis software such as ETAP, EPLAN, AutoCAD, CYMCAP, and CDEGS.
Strong technical leadership skills and proven ability to manage engineering deliverables.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Proactive team player with strong problem‑solving skills and initiative.
Experience in on‑site commissioning activities is highly desirable.
