The Gastrointestinal Physiologist Chief II is responsible for the investigation, interpretation, and reporting of gastrointestinal physiological function to support the diagnosis and management of motility disorders and functional gastrointestinal diseases. The post holder will be a senior and integral member of the Gastrointestinal team, with responsibility for advanced diagnostic testing, staff training and development, quality assurance, audit, and service development in line with hospital strategy and evolving clinical demand. Key Responsibilities 1. Diagnostic Testing Perform, interpret, and report specialised gastrointestinal physiology investigations, including but not limited to: oHigh-resolution oesophageal manometry o24-hour pH and pH-impedance monitoring oSmall Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) testing oHydrogen and methane breath tests Prepare, calibrate, and maintain equipment to ensure accurate and reliable physiological measurements. Monitor patients throughout procedures to ensure safety, comfort, and dignity at all times. 2. Clinical Duties Support physicians in the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal motility disorders (e.g. achalasia, gastroparesis). Explain procedures clearly to patients and obtain informed consent in accordance with hospital policy.
