  • Environmental Technologist

    Aughinish Alumina Ltd, situated on a 1,300-acre site on the Shannon Estuary, is one of theleading industrial plants in Ireland.It is the largest Alumina Refinery in Europe,producing the primary raw material for the production of aluminium. The company also has a 160MW Combined Heat and Power Plant. Aughinish has a history of continuousimprovement and innovation and is now considered to be a world leader in the industry. Working as a member of the environmental team, this position will provide the successful candidate with experience in all aspects of the environmental management of large manufacturing facility in a highly regulated chemical process industry. The site operates under a number of licenses and permits from the EPA and other regulatory authorities in relation to industrial emissions, greenhouse gases, port maintenance dredging, and radiological protection. The sites Environmental Management System is certified to the ISO 14001 standard. Our Industrial Emissions licensed site comprises A major shipping port (the third busiest port in Ireland) Europes largest and most modern alumina refinery A 180-hectare extractive waste facility for dry disposal of extractive tailings An onsite rock quarry to serve the extractive waste facility A 165 MW Combined Heat and Power plant (largest in Britain & Ireland) Key Responsibilities: The successful candidate will have responsibility for a range of environmental duties including: Sampling and analysis of all environmental emissions according to AALs Industrial Emissions Licence (IEL) requirements Carry out additional sampling and analysis of environmental aspects as required Implementing Laboratory Quality Management Systems, such as quality control checks and calibrations Manage and maintain the suite of sampling equipment and locations in sound working order Preparation of reports to EPA and plant personnel Liaise with plant personnel on environmental matters Maintenance of the extensive environmental documentation database Liaison with the EPA and external environmental contractors Liaise with research facilities on relevant research programs Conducting regular environmental audits against licence, internal and ISO14001 requirements Monitoring, control and reporting on relevant pilot plant facilities Flexibility will be required as other duties outside those described above may be assigned from time to time. This is a full-time, on-site position requiring the employee to work from our site during standard business hours. Hybrid work options are not available for this role. Requirements: Environmental science/engineering/management degree or equivalent Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in an environmental related role Familiarisation with environmental legislation Successful technologists in Aughinish have excellent communication and problem-solving skills.   • Chemical Process Engineer

It is the largest Alumina Refinery in Europe, producing approximately 2 million tonnes per annum of product that is the primary raw material for the production of aluminum. The company also has a 150MW Combined Heat and Power Plant. Aughinish Alumina has a history of continuous improvement and innovation and is now considered to be a world leader in the industry. What is the job? Working as part of the Process Control Group (PCG) team, this position will provide you with the opportunity to work with a wide range of process technologies, supported by the most advanced computer technology available to the process industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day process control of a significant part of our plant and will progress to a combination of central and process area work. A key part of the role will be the long-term development of the process under your responsibility. This will be assisted by having access to an experienced process development team and extensive research laboratories. Duties: Work to high plant standards in the areas of safety and quality. Maintain process control on a day to day basis. Recommend, justify, plan, initiate and install projects or process improvements aimed at improving plant performance. Lead performance improvement for process control and process efficiencies. Screen and prioritize problem areas within their area of responsibility. Actively participate in plant improvement programmes relating to safety, quality, environment, costs, energy and process, as required. Provide technical backup to the operations and staff teams in resolving complex process/plant problems. Promote the generation of new ideas of equipment modification, analytical requirements and data handling. Requirements: Degree (or post-grad) in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline. Proven ability to work safely. Enthusiasm and energetic with the ability to integrate quickly into a team environment and work on own initiative.
