Software Development Engineer, UTR, Last Mile Amazon’s global fulfilment network enables any merchant in any geography to ship items that you order on Amazon, to any place on earth. Amazon Logistics’ (AMZL) delivery stations (DS) receive packages from Fulfilment Centers (FCs) and Sort Centers (SCs) and sort them to route level. Drivers come into the DS and pick up the packages for their route and deliver them to Amazon’s customers. This operation is also called the “Last Mile”. An integral component in the Last Mile ecosystem are Amazon's WW delivery hubs where packages are received, sorted and prepared for on-road delivery. The Station Tech team in Last Mile is responsible for building scalable tools and technology for delivery hubs that scale across multiple programs and businesses including Amazon Logistics (AMZL) and Global Specialty Fulfilment (GSF) to increase associate productivity, site throughput, and operational quality and scalability of our delivery network. Our primary customers are delivery station associates (our actual on-ground rockstars who sort millions of packages a day), station managers (who manage Amazon hubs WW to ensure customer promises are met), COs (central operations team who supervise stations across regions), and on-road delivery agents (drivers who sail through all obstacles to get your packages at your doorstep). The team builds tools and processes which guide our customers to reduce their cognitive load, eliminate decision points to drive standardisation, prioritise work to focus on the highest impact tasks, and take steps for correcting operational defects to reduce the impact of human error and meet our customer SLAs. UTR Tech is an organisation within Last Mile supporting all the delivery stations in the delivery network. A delivery station receives an input set of packages from upstream and performs the required set of operations and processes on the packages to ultimately get them out of the delivery stations for on-road delivery. The associates within the delivery stations use a mobile-based application called Dolphin for running the execution operations. The Node Receive COD team handles the process of receiving packages, routing them back to the right origin, and handling Cash on Delivery reconciliations and liabilities among driver, station, and bank. Software Development Engineer, Lambda Runtimes, AWS Job ID: 2918915 | Amazon Development Centre Ireland Limited AWS Lambda’s goal is nothing less than to simplify and improve the experience of computing in the cloud for every developer on the planet, from start-ups to the largest Fortune 100 companies. Serverless computing is rapidly changing how every company thinks about building and delivering software solutions, and Lambda is leading this industry-wide effort. Our Team AWS Lambda is growing its initiatives in Dublin, Ireland, with goals of continuing to define the Serverless revolution. Lambda teams in Dublin are part of the lambda experience charter with a mission to simplify the developer, operator, and administrator tasks in bringing code from desktop-development to a production service. If you’re excited by Serverless computing, programming languages, and container/function interaction models, this role is for you. Join us and change how the world computes by enabling new frameworks that enable customers to build better software on top of AWS. Lambda Experience Runtimes is one of the most customer-visible and developer-commented upon areas of Lambda. The Language Runtimes team is responsible for the curation, patching, and deprecation of all the six Managed Runtimes that Lambda supports such as Python, NodeJS, Java, Ruby, Go, and DotNet, in addition to the custom runtime plus the associated lambda container images. An ideal candidate has experience delivering new initiatives and is comfortable working closely with Customers. You should be aware of industry best practices & patterns in all aspects of building, releasing & verifying software. You should also be familiar with industry trends in programming languages, build tooling, and deployment spaces. You will own and help drive exciting new and existing initiatives in Lambda while being capable of working on massive scale, high availability, and ambiguous performance problems as well as developer experience problems. This role will involve identifying and solving problems in different programming language ecosystems, enabling new customer-facing functionality, and new programming paradigms in the Serverless ecosystem. What does it take to succeed in this role? A roll-up-your-sleeves type. Comfortable working in an environment dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of customers. Able to think about business opportunities, operational issues, and architectural diagrams in the course of a single conversation. Intellectually curious, always looking to learn, and a dedication to turning developers into fans. Someone who makes the team both productive and a fun place to work. Being excited to learn from others while bringing your own novel capabilities and perspectives. On-Call Responsibility This position involves on-call responsibilities; every builder on Lambda is also an owner. Nobody likes to get paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are well engineered, fault-tolerant, and meet a high-quality bar before they go into production. Our customers expect nothing less. When we do get paged, we work together as a team to resolve the root cause of the issue, and nobody is left on their own to deal with an operational issue. What you should expect? If you’re excited by defining how modern and future software applications are built and want to help lead from the innovative edge, we guarantee that your work in our team will be ground-breaking and challenging. We’re looking for a new teammate who is enthusiastic, empathetic, curious, motivated, reliable, and able to work effectively with a diverse team of peers; someone who will help us amplify the positive & inclusive team culture we’ve been building. Together, we’ll deliver the next generation of industry-leading compute features and help every business from the smallest startups to the largest enterprises run their code in the cloud without the burden of infrastructure or scale (that’s our job). We’ll shape not just our own products, but contribute to the direction of AWS and the serverless industry. Utility Computing (UC) AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. Within AWS UC, Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) roles engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services. Come help us change the world!
