Consultant Gastroenterologist Public Contract (HSE) Location: Munster Region, Ireland A large public teaching hospital in the Munster region is seeking to appoint a Consultant Gastroenterologist on a public-only consultant contract. This is an excellent opportunity to join a progressive and supportive multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality gastroenterology and endoscopy services within a busy acute hospital setting. Role Overview The successful candidate will provide comprehensive gastroenterology services, including outpatient care, endoscopy, and participation in the acute medical service. Key responsibilities include: Delivery of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy (OGD and colonoscopy) Management of general gastroenterology conditions including IBD, hepatology, and functional GI disorders Participation in the acute GI bleed rota and general medical on-call as required Contribution to multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, including colorectal cancer pathways Active involvement in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives Teaching and supervision of NCHDs and involvement in undergraduate education Candidate Requirements Applicants must meet the following criteria: Registration on the Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council (Gastroenterology) or eligibility for same Significant experience in general gastroenterology and endoscopy Demonstrated commitment to clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement Experience in teaching and supervising junior doctors Excellent communication and teamwork skills Desirable Criteria Experience working within a public healthcare system Interest in service development and endoscopy quality improvement Subspecialty interest in areas such as IBD, hepatology, or advanced endoscopy Contract & Benefits Public-only consultant contract in line with HSE terms and conditions Competitive salary and allowances as per national scales Generous annual leave and CPD support Opportunities for service development, research, and teaching Skills: Gastroenterology Medicine Endoscopy
